New LTO license plates for motor vehicles (MV) and motorcycles (MC) are expected to be issued by September, according to the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).
According to a press release by DOTC, the new license plates will have a new and modern design. The motor vehicle plates will now have a 3-letter, 4-number combination.
On the other hand, motorcycle plates will have a 2-letter, 5-number combination plates.
The private vehicle plates will also come in a black-and-white design, with a look similar to those in Singapore and parts of Europe.
The new Land Transportation Office (LTO) license plates will also have multiple security features. The new plates will prevent tampering, theft and falsification of license plates, mitigating carnapping, colorum, and smuggling practices. Security features of the new plates include:
- Laser-etched bar codes containing selective data inputs allowing data verification with the LTO;
- Reflective sheeting material allowing license plates visibility even from wide-entrance angles and up to a distance of 100 feet, for both daytime and nighttime; and
- Anodized bolt head screws and nuts with serial numbers preventing tampering and removal of the license plates from the vehicles once installed.
