Megan Young was named as one of the eleven finalists in Miss World’s Beach Fashion competition — a unique and a more conservative tweak on the usual Bikini fashion show.
The preliminary competition held at Nusa Dua in Bali, Indonesia saw the 125 beauties parade in one-piece bathing suit and a sarong. Such change was made as pageant organizers wanted to avoid “being disrespectful” among the predominantly Muslim population of Indonesia.
The 33 Semi Finalists for the Beach Fashion Award were: Curacao, Chile, Bahamas, France, Aruba, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Jamaica, Ecuador, Albania, Spain, Philippines, Denmark, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Japan, US Virgin Islands, China PR, Ghana, South Sudan, Cote D’Ivoire, Martinique, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Italy, Brazil, Guyana, Venezuela, England, Kyrgyzstan and Moldova.
The Semi Finalists were further screened down to 11 and the Philippines’ bet was among them earning Megan Young a spot in the Beach Fashion finals. Joining Megan are the candidates of France, Jamaica, Indonesia, Spain, China, Ghana, Ukraine, Italy, Brazil, and Moldova. The winner will be named during the pageant’s coronation night on September 28.
Megan Young has also been chosen to be among the nine candidate-spokespersons for the pageant, and among the early favorites. And that doesn’t stop there, the Filipinos are sending their all out support for Megan as she is currently first on the Miss World 2013 Online Poll.
The 125 Miss World candidates have also completed a golf tournament and a sports challenge on Monday before the Beach Fashion eliminations.
Since Tuesday, protests in Muslim-majority Indonesia continued with mounting calls for Miss World to cancel its finals night.
