Three Filipina beauties will be competing for the crown in Miss Universe 2013.
Recently crowned Binibining Pilipinas-Universe Ariella Arida from Alaminos Laguna will be representing the Philippines on the upcoming international competition. She will be joined by two other Miss Universe contenders with Filipino ancestry.
Riza Santos, who was well-known in the Philippines as a “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate, was crowned early last week as Miss Universe Canada.
She was initially named first runner-up at the coronation night. On the next day, pageant director Denis Davila accused an amateur employee for an error transferring the judges’ handwritten scores into a computer program that determines the winner. Santos was declared as the winner and will compete in Miss Universe 2013.
Santos is a pure Filipina. Her father is from Bulacan while her mother hails from Bataan. She already made waves in the pageant scene in Canada where she was crowned as the country’s Miss Earth in 2006, and Miss World in 2011.
Ruth Jennifer Ondo Mouchita, a half-Filipina, is the representative from the western African state of Gabon. She was crowned in December last year and can reportedly speak fluently in Tagalog.
Mouchita is the second candidate from Gabon to join Miss Universe since the country’s 2012 debut in the 62-year-old pageant.
